About me

Hello and welcome to my corner of the internet, I'm Dan. I've been a software engineer and CTO for over 15 years, mostly in startups / scaleups in ruby, across fintech, healthcare and booking tech. Often the only senior engineer in the room, I have worked on the whole stack, from architecture decisions to setting up the deployment pipeline, changing the color of the button and migrating the stack to kubernetes.

I'm also something of a disabilities collector, which makes me a part-time wheelchair user, very good at understanding systems and an unwillingly very picky eater.

During my free time I build Bia: a food management app for people with severe GI issues and dietary restrictions, written in rust and svelte. You can read all about why in this blog post.

The posts here will be about this journey, of making Bia a reality, the architecture, the trade-offs, the mistakes, the challenges but also the philosophical choices and values.

I'm currently open to new professional adventures, if you have an exciting project, let me know!
